At last the final monument is unveiled and what a fantastic piece of craftsmanship it is too - see it at the Britannia Stadium

How can you help?

To spearhead the fundraising drive, Don Mullan has donated 5000 copies of his book ‘A Hero Who Could Fly’.

These are being distributed through the Britannia Building Society, together with a specially designed ‘Banks of England’ £10 note/receipt collector’s item.

For every £10 donation made to the Monument Fund, donors will receive a free copy of Mullan’s book and the ‘Banks of England’ £10 note. In time, the book and the £10 note/receipt may exceed the value of the donation made.

Prior to production the note was vetted and cleared by The Bank of England. Available at branches of Britannia Building Society.

How long will it take and how much will it cost?

The Monument, costing £350,000, will comprise three figures: two monumental figures of Banks in action (including 'That Save' against Pelé), raised on a book-plinth; the third figure will be life-size and placed on the ground, depicting Banks holding the World Cup in 1966.

Some artists impressions of the finished item are displayed here as a taste of what's is to come. We would also like to acknowledge the use of Getty Images in the creation of this Monument.

Phase 2 and 3 of the Monument are now in the planning phases

How exactly will it look?

early small scale models

A great deal of planning and early modelling went into the monument which after all will be around for decades to come.

Modelled from period photographs, books, videos and Getty images the monument is as close to perfect as you can get in Bronze.

who is made it?

The sculptor chosen is the locally and nationally celebrated artist, Andrew Edwards.

Staffordshire was once the world centre for craftsmanship and renowned as the Potteries.

It is hoped that this monument will bring much needed focus on this aspect of Stoke City's heritage.
